Wisconsin Super Burger Pizza




INGREDIENTS:

1 flatbread or preferred pizza crust

Inside Out Sauce

3/4 cup mayo

1/2 cup BbQ sauce

1/2 cup relish

2 tsp cider vinegar

2 tsp sugar

-

4 slices American cheese

-

Burger

1 lb ground beef

2 1/2 tsp salt & pepper blend

2 tsp smoked paprika

1 tsp brown sugar

3/4 tsp garlic powder

3/4 tsp onion powder

1/4 tsp chili powder

1 TBL BbQ sauce

-

Beer Brats

1 package Johnsonville Smoked Beef Brats (or preferred brand)

1/2 yellow onion, sliced

12oz Miller Lite (or preferred beer)*reserve after cooking brats

Beer Cheese Sauce

*reserved beer

8oz shredded cheddar (I used smoked cheddar)

2 TBL flour

-

Toppings

dill pickles, chopped

yellow mustard

shredded mozzarella

onion straws or onions from beer brats


DIRECTIONS:


Preheat the oven to 425


Mix all the ingredients for the Inside Out Sauce, then place in the refrigerator until ready to use.





Beer Brats: simmer the brats with 1/2 a sliced onion and 12oz of beer for 25 minutes. Remove the brats and onions from the beer and set aside. *Reserve the beer.














Burger: Brown the ground beef and drain the grease. Then add the remaining burger ingredients and mix well. Set aside.
















Beer Cheese Sauce: bring the *reserved beer to a boil. Once the beer is boiling, add the cheese and flour. Turn down the heat and stir until combined. Remove from heat and set aside.









To Build the Pizza:


Spread some Inside Out Sauce on the pizza crust. Top with 4 slices of American cheese, followed by the Burger.



Next, top the Burger with the Beer Cheese Sauce. Then add some Beer Brat slices and diced dill pickles or pickle relish.


Finish it by drizzling some yellow mustard, mozzarella cheese and onion straws. You can also use the onions from the Beer Brats.


Once your pizza is assembled bake in the preheated oven, directly on the rack, for 8-12 min or until the cheese has achieved desired melty-ness.


Story behind the WI Super Burger:


I often tell people some of my fondest memories as a kid were spent with my Dad grilling on our red Weber Kettle Grill. As with most people who liked to grill we loved to grill burgers. Being from Wisconsin we also loved our Johnsonville Brats! One day my Dad decided to top our burgers with a brat and thus the WI Super Burger was born!


Kind of like my Mom's Pizza Ryes this was one of those things that wasn't overly complicated yet it created an absolutely beautiful food memory for me. As I'm writing this I'm thinking of more wonderful dishes my parents made that give me fond memories. Maybe I'll need to put my twist on some of those too...until then!
