Inside Out Tot Burger

I used to have a co-worker when I worked at Brown's that was obsessed with In n Out Burger. Being a fellow lover of excellent burgers I asked Joe what it was that made these burgers so special. He told me it wasn't so much the burger as it was the sauce. You can probably guess what I did next...I came up with my own version of their sauce. I call it my Inside Out sauce.

Last week I saw someone made a Big Mac Tot casserole...I fing hate McDonald's but thought an Inside Out Tot Burger would be fantastic. I was right! It was so good that I am making it again tonight!

There is nothing at all complicated about this recipe. You simply start by browning some beef; add the sauce, some pickle and spices. Top it with a layer of cheese. Then a layer of tots and bake.

I finish it by adding shredded lettuce and drizzling some more sauce on it. In my opinion, the sauce is the star of this dish but the tots do such a perfect job of mimicking a bun that it's a match made in heaven! Don't take my word for it though, here's the recipe. Make it and judge for yourself.

Inside Out Tot Burger

Yields about 4 servings

Inside Out Sauce

3/4 cup mayonnaise

1/2 cup BbQ sauce (I use my KC)

1/2 cup relish

2 tsp cider vinegar

2 tsp sugar

Mix all ingredients together in a medium mixing bowl. For best results, refrigerate overnight to allow the flavors to blend.

Tot Burger

1 lb ground beef

1 TBL butter (I used smoked butter)

3/4 cup Inside Out Sauce

1/2 cup diced dill pickle

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp Salt & Pepper

1 cup cheese of choice (I used a WI smoked cheddar)

17oz (1/2 bag) frozen tots

1/2 cup shredded lettuce*

2 TBL Inside Out Sauce*

*this is an approximation

Preheat oven to 400.

Cook ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat with a dab of butter. Once the ground beef is fully cooked, drain the grease.

Add the Inside Out Sauce, dill pickle, onion powder, garlic powder and S&P to the pan with the beef.

Stir until all ingredients are combined.

Add the beef mixture to a greased 9x9 baking dish and spread it out evenly. Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top.

Place the tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.

Place the baking dish in the oven and bake until the tots are golden brown; 40-45 minutes.

Remove from the oven and sprinkle the lettuce on top.**

Drizzle sauce over lettuce.**

**this re-heats fantastically so I would only add lettuce and extra sauce to what you plan on eating
